U.S. Attorney General announces “significant escalation” against sanctuary cities
On February 10th U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr announced that there is going to be significant escalation against sanctuary cities in the U.S.
What does “significant escalation” mean?
Significant escalation in this case means that the U.S. Justice Department will sue states that have Sanctuary Cities in place. Some of these states are California, New Jersey, and Washington. Arizona doesn’t have sanctuary cities in place.
Today in Arizona the U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona Michael Bailey, along with members of Homeland Security Investigation (HSI) and ICE, held a press conference following up on AG Bill Barr’s action against sanctuary cities. Here are our 4 key takeaways:
There will not be any “significant escalation” in Arizona since there are no sanctuary cities here
No further law enforcement escalation
HSI agents will continue targeted sting operations.
No announced ICE raids in Arizona.
What is the importance of this announcement, how does it impact me?
This announcement won’t impact Arizona, however we still want to be cautious. We want to make it clear that announcements like this can cause confusion, panic, and emotional trauma.
We want to remind folks to take a moment to take care of their emotional and physical well-being during these difficult times. We will try our best to keep folks updated with the latest information regarding immigration.
What can I do, how can I stay informed?
