HCR 2060 Marks a Step Backward for Arizona's Prosperity; Now is in the Hands of Arizona Citizens to Protect Arizona Families
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 4, 2024
Phoenix, AZ – On June 4, 2024, the Arizona House of Representatives passed HCR 2060, which will impact 140,000 U.S. citizen children in Arizona from immigrant parents and is projected to cost our state over $325 million. The resolution will be at the November general election, and it will be up to the voters of Arizona to decide on the fate of HCR 2060. This resolution will impact all Arizonans, including immigrant families. This could lead to diminishing legal pathways, inconsistent treatment by law enforcement, and the overall economic prosperity of the state.
"Today is a sad day for Arizona. The Arizona Legislature passed HCR 2060, which does not solve problems but creates new ones,” said Reyna Montoya, Founder and CEO of Aliento. Reyna, who has lived in Arizona for over 20 years, served as a witness during the committee hearing. “There are 140,000 U.S. citizen children under 18 that live with at least one undocumented parent. When we think of this type of policy, we must consider the children of U.S. citizens who may be impacted by this. This will hurt Arizona families.”
After today, it is in the hands of Arizonans. It is now up to the citizens of Arizona to stay informed and stay vigilant. HCR 2060 will now be on the 2024 ballot in Arizona. Let's keep Arizona families together. Let’s keep students in school without the fear of being separated from their families. WE URGE THE GOOD PEOPLE OF ARIZONA TO VOTE NO ON HCR2060. Voice your opposition to HCR 2060 and stand in solidarity with Arizona's children of undocumented parents, Dreamers, and hard-working immigrants who contribute daily to making our state more prosperous.
