Position Summary

Aliento is seeking a Communications & Marketing Manager to steward our voice, narrative, and digital and traditional media presence. This role plays a critical part in shaping how Aliento shows up publicly—amplifying youth voices, community stories, advancing our mission, and strengthening engagement and relationship building with supporters, partners, and stakeholders.

The Communications & Marketing Manager oversees Aliento’s core communications channels, including digital content, traditional media, email, and brand storytelling. Working closely with the Sr. Director, Digital and Technology, this role supports strategic priorities related to brand awareness, movement storytelling, and digital stewardship, including fundraising communications and CRM-supported engagement strategies.

This position is ideal for someone who understands communications as a tool for organizing, power-building, and cultural and narrative change; who thrives in collaborative environments; and who brings both creativity and discipline to their work.

As the manager they will be expected to hold their direct reports to a high bar of excellence through consistent accountability and feedback cycles. The role is one that requires both a manager’s scope of oversight and detail-oriented execution. This position is based in Phoenix, Arizona, and is based in our regional office with one day of flexible remote work.

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of experience in communications, digital marketing, or related fields

  • Experience managing social media strategy, email marketing, and traditional media communications

  • Familiarity with CRM platforms and digital fundraising tools

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across diverse audiences

  • Experience in nonprofit, organizing, advocacy, or political environments strongly preferred

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and social platforms

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities

  • Alignment with Aliento’s mission, values, and commitment to immigrant justice, healing, education, and the arts

  • Aligned and committed to the mission and core values of Aliento; passionate about supporting education, mental health, arts, and other areas that advance the rights of students, Dreamers, and immigrant families

Essential Functions

Specified duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Lead the media strategy (digital & traditional) to increase engagement and ensure engagement goals are met

    • Sustain and grow an active social media presence for Aliento - create digital and social media content across all platforms

    • Manage the daily posts to all active social media accounts that reflect the different departments and initiatives (i.e. Cultiva, Nurture, Transform, blogs, relevant news/content)

    • Create all communication content for Aliento editorials, media pitches, press releases, blogs, emails, ensuring that they are aligned and approved by the necessary parties

    • Collaborate, as needed, with the staff, interns, consultants, and stakeholders who support our content creation in multiple forms (written, video, etc.)

    • Lead the documentation of all major Aliento events to document the work and impact (e.g. anniversaries, art gallery events, fellowship events, arts & healing workshops, etc.)

    • Lead the execution of the strategic plan to elevate the organizational brand through existing channels and new, innovative opportunities to sustain and improve our brand position and fundraising

    • Audit internal documents for branding and ensure that newly created materials are appropriately branded

    • Lead the implementation of organizational materials that compellingly reflect our impact (e.g. brochures, one-pagers, impact reports, etc.)

    • Attend meetings with partners, funders, or relevant stakeholders

    • Regular check-ins with supervisor

    • Lead the cross-training to departments on digital and marketing initiatives

    • Be a spokesperson for the organization (as needed)

    • Other duties, as needed

Compensation Package

  • FTE $53,000–$65,000, commensurate with experience

  • Accrual of PTO per PTO policy (first year of employment, accrual of 12 days)

  • Organization paid holidays (includes approximately two weeks off during the winter break)
