Aliento's Statement on Today's Events at the U.S. Capitol

Today’s insurrectionists took over our Nation’s Capitol, a woman was killed, and hundreds of lives were threatened. Incited by the false claims of widespread voter fraud by the sitting President of the United States of America, insurrectionists supporting the President stormed the U.S. capitol building, took over the senate, destroyed property, and challenged the lives and safety of people including our elected officials.

“My heart aches. Today will be remembered as a very dark day for our nation. What is happening in our Capitol is an insurrection! Our country is in danger for the way President Trump has falsely claimed victory in the election and his continuous lack of leadership on a successful transition of power. Leaders must condemn this behavior and act to protect our nation! The safety of our nation is in danger.” - Reyna Montoya, Founder/CEO at Aliento

The United States has been a beacon of hope for immigrants fleeing violence, poverty, and corruption. Today the republic showed itself stronger than a lawless mob attempts to stop the certification of the 2020 election. President Elect Joe Biden stated, "Today's a reminder, a painful one, that democracy is fragile and to preserve it requires people of goodwill, leaders with the courage to stand up, who are devoted not to the pursuit of power and personal interest at any cost, but to the common good."

Today’s violent insurrection needs to be condemned by every elected official, leaders, and conscious citizen. Only together can begin to heal the wounds of our nation
