On June 4, 2024, the Arizona House of Representatives passed HCR 2060, which will impact 140,000 U.S. citizen children in Arizona from immigrant parents and is projected to cost our state over $325 million.

On Sep. 7, 2022, a coalition of community organizations launched the In-state Tuition for Dreamers: Educational Awareness Campaign.

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH) received a nearly $60 million grant by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and allocated for 18 community organizations who address health disparities. Aliento was among one of the 18 community organizations to receive this fund.

At Aliento, we all applaud the recent announcement by the White House to provide healthcare coverage to DACA recipients; healthcare needs to be accessible and affordable for everyone, including our immigrant communities.

We are devastated that immigration was not included as part of the budget. DACA remains in legal limbo as Federal courts decide its faith. This means that Dreamers are at risk of losing everything and facing potential deportation.

The death of Adam Toledo, a 13 year old boy in the streets of Chicago at the hands of police is heartbreaking. Our heart and thoughts are with Adam’s family and friends.

HR6 would allow nearly 650,000 active Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, as well as the 1.6 million eligible undocumented youth brought to America as children, a pathway to citizenship in the U.S.

On February 16, 2021 in a 6 (yes) to 2 (no) vote SCR 1044 passed the Arizona Senate Education Committee in the 55th Arizona Legislative Session. This bill will provide in-state tuition to all students who graduate from a high school in Arizona, regardless of immigration status.

On January 20, 2021. Joseph Biden was officially inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States. Earlier this week, President Biden released details of his immigration proposal which would provide an eight-year path to citizenship for an estimated 11 million people living in the U.S. without legal status.

Today’s insurrectionists took over our Nation’s Capitol, a woman was killed, and hundreds of lives were threatened. Incited by the false claims of widespread voter fraud by the sitting President of the United States of America, insurrectionists supporting the President stormed the U.S. capitol building, took over the senate, destroyed property, and challenged the lives and safety of people including our elected officials.

Today, Arizona has shown the country who we are. After the signage of SB 1070 “show me your papers law,” anti-immigrant rhetoric, and hate we have come together to organize our community to voice their thoughts.
