Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, plans to steps down

John Sanders, commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, plans to step down in the coming weeks, probably to avoid negative public reception over the treatment of migrant children in U.S. facilities.

Reports state that nearly 300 migrant children — from infants to 17-year-olds — were detained in a remote Border Patrol station in West Texas without enough food, water, and sanitation.

Authorities in Texas reported seven migrant deaths on Monday, including those of a woman, two babies, and a toddler, showing the danger of extreme summer heat as Central American families surge across the U.S.-Mexico border. Border Patrol reported 283 migrant fatalities on the border in 2018.

Children in cages is on all of us. Every day that passes shows that horrendous things can happen so long as good people stay silent. The death of children in US detention facilities continues to occur. Seven children have died so far.

History will judge the silence of millions of Americans in the midst of thousands of babies, and children detained in abhorrent conditions. Seven year olds taking care of one year olds because there aren’t enough CBP personnel.
