4 Things You Can Do About Immigration Raids

1. Stay Informed

Are there going to be ICE raids?

ICE & DHS officials have announced that “Operation Family Op” will take place this weekend and next week. ICE says they are focused on removing people who have already been given orders to check in with ICE agents for deportation.

It’s important to note that families will not be deported immediately. If arrested, they will be taken into an ICE detention facility. At that moment, they should ask to see an attorney.

When is this happening?

According to the reports, we are hearing that they will start this Sunday, June 23, 2019 and go through next week.

Where is this happening?

News outlets have reported that it will happen in 10 major U.S. cities including Atlanta, Baltimore, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New Orleans, New York and San Francisco. However, we are not 100% sure that those are the only cities they will operate in.

Who is ICE targeting?

ICE agents have limited intelligence on the locations of the families with court-ordered deportations beyond their last known addresses. The White House and ICE officials say agents will be able to make many “collateral arrests.” This means that if they encounter (come in contact with) someone who is undocumented they can also arrest them even if they were not looking for them in the first place.

Why is this happening now?

White House officials believe this operation has been made public due to the President's re-election announcement. Additionally, this operation has been in the works for months now. ICE has sent final deportation letters to thousands of undocumented immigrants this year.
