Last week we had over 300 students from over 30 schools across the valley join us in our efforts in advocating for Instate Tuition for Dreamers in Arizona! We wanted to take this chance to let you know everything that happened that day.

With this decision, the Supreme Court is allowing the Trump administration more power to deny visas or green cards to applicants coming from low income.

On January 23, Aliento held the Education Day. Education Day is an event held at the AZ Capitol where we students shared with legislators the importance of Instate Tuition for Dreamers.

Education Leaders of Color (EdLoC) announced that Reyna Montoya, Founder and CEO of Aliento, is one of six Boulder Fund grantees this year.

Aliento is a small but strong team, collectively we’ve engaged over 16,000 people in person through our programs and campaigns. We have been working nonstop to amplify the voices of those affected by legislative decisions on DACA and immigration. Here are the highlights of 2019!

On December 3, 2019 Aliento in partnership with Matiz Creative launched its first ever national campaign titled Aliento: Not Afraid. This campaign is a series of videos that amplifies and features the stories of undocumented youth, dreamers, and mixed status families from Aliento.

On Friday, Reyna Montoya was awarded the Young Professional award by the Greater Phoenix Chamber at the Athena Awards 2019!

Our founder and CEO, Reyna Montoya, will be a keynote speaker at 2019 Forbes Under 30 Summit!

Coming from schools all over the valley, the fellows will be working within their schools to ensure sure that all Arizona graduates are eligible for instate tuition regardless of immigration status!

Our Education & Advocacy Director, Jose Patino, is part of the task force, representing us here at Aliento to share insights from the DACA and mixed status families community!

Blanca Sierra & Laura Sierra, two undocumented moms/sisters, graduating together from Arizona State University. Through all the obstacles being thrown at them, from Prop 300 to no access to instate tuition, they still prevailed.

Three years ago, Montoya founded Aliento. In English it means “breath.” Her organization uses art to help heal undocumented youth and families who have been criminalized in America. When she talks about the shooting, she feels it in her body.

Attorney General Mark Brnovich is siding with Trump in his efforts to dissolve DACA claiming that its costing Arizona money without providing any proof.

Governor Ducey was interviewed today at KJZZ around his thoughts on last week’s decision from ABOR to extand 150% tuition rate to all Arizona high school graduates, including undocumented students who graduate from our state high schools.

7 years today, DACA was federally implemented. Although it didn’t provide a path to citizenship, It gave many undocumented youth a chance to work, an opportunity to go to school, and protection of deportation.
